I just visited my 4th of the 7 wonders of the modern world, for my 37th birthday on 7/7!
It was just as amazing as you would think. One of those things that you cannot believe exists.
It took quite a journey to get there! We flew to Cusco from Lima at 3am, then took a bus for 2 hours to a hotel, woke up at 6am and took another bus for an hour to a train. The train ride was an hour and a half and takes you to Aguas Calientes. Then one last bus up the rest of the mountain.
Then…you hike. At greater than 8000ft. With no air.
I know that people do the Inca Trail for 4 days, so I’m not exactly complaining, and, it was well worth it!
We stayed in a very pretty hotel called Amak. However, it was in the middle of nowhere. There were no other guests and nothing to do anywhere around. So, we rested.
Today, we woke up bright and early again to drive the 2 hours back to Cusco.
It is a beautiful city. It looks a lot like Bavarian Europe actually.
One of my least favorite things when traveling is all of the people who come up to you to try to sell you something. You know, like at Mathis Brothers Furniture. It gets annoying quickly. And be careful of people in costumes trying to “let you” take a picture with them. Next thing you know, they may have guilted you out of quite a bit of money.
Okay, I know I am complaining. I’m tired. I’m hungry. I probably have altitude sickness. I miss my kids. I miss home.
4 more days!!
